Pebbledash – here today, gone tomorrow!

This is a very typ­i­cal exam­ple of a home­owner who moves into their new home and wants to improve the appear­ance of their home. Peb­bledash, although very pop­u­lar about 30 years ago has had its day in the sun it seems – we get a huge num­ber of requests from home­own­ers who want to replace their peb­bledash with a new, smarter fin­ish.

With a peb­bledash prop­erty, there is huge impor­tance on the pull test we carry out. This test con­firms whether the peb­bledash needs to be removed  or is suf­fi­cient to sup­port the exter­nal wall insu­la­tion we install on top of it. It involves attach­ing sev­eral small blocks of insu­la­tion all over the prop­erty with the adhe­sive. Once the adhe­sive dries, we then try to pull the insu­la­tion off the wall – if the insu­la­tion pulls the peb­bledash with it, then we have to strip the whole wall of the peb­bledash, but if the insu­la­tion comes away then the under­ly­ing peb­bledash is suf­fi­ciently strong for us to install the exter­nal wall insu­la­tion directly on it.

In this prop­erty, the pull test con­formed the integrity of the exist­ing peb­bledash, so the insu­la­tion boards where attached directly to it using both the adhe­sive and the mechan­i­cal fix­ings.
