External wall insulation Morden SW
There are many considerations before the works begin.
- Fire Regulations – In the UK, there are various regulations to help reduce the impact of fire on the insulation. On taller buildings above 3 stories, mineral wool insulation is usually specified, or fire breaks must be installed in polystyrene insulation. This must be taken into account during the planning phase to ensure the system is compliant.
- Connections and Profiles – It is essential that each connection or feature that will be required for the works is carefully specified before installation begins. For example, what type of verge trim will be required, or will an expansion joint be necessary? Furthermore, those parts of the system that must be permanently proofed against driving rain and other forms of water ingress must be carefully considered.
- Anchoring Points – There are many ancillary items found on a typical wall, like awnings, satellite dishes and hanging baskets that will need to be considered. Appropriate supports that do not allow cold bridging must be installed and this should be planned and discussed with the customer prior to installation.
- Installations in the substrate – Prior to application of the insulation, any parts requiring extension such as flues, pipes and dishes, should be extended and ready to fit the insulation. It is not permitted to allow cables under the insulation, except where it is required to reach a light or other electrical fitting.
